Cora Alta Tennefoss
November 22, 1930 - December 23, 2020
Cora Alta (Schrock) Tennefoss, was welcomed to her home with Jesus after suffering a stroke, Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Christiana Hospital. She celebrated her 90th birthday on November 22th with a ladies tea party. She was born November 22, 1930 in Farmington, DE to Eli C and Lucy V (Bender) Schrock. She married Thomas Tennefoss Jr of Fentress, VA on March 10, 1956. Cora spent her years as a hard-working and joyful caregiver. From her mother’s time as a nurse and with her training as an LPN she often was called to homes or had visitors from the sick or women in labor. She was instrumental in establishing and running Sussex County Home Services. She spent a number of years working at The Felton Group Home as a nurse and case manager. As a result of her leadership and care, “Cora’s Place” in Woodside, DE is named in her honor. Cora continued home care until 2016, then 86 years old. She provided wonderful care with warmth and a sense of humor. She enjoyed making wonderful meals for those she cared for, and her family. Her yeast rolls and desserts are among the many things she was good at. She was active in the Mennonite Community in Greenwood, DE and loved singing hymns and worshiping our Lord and Savior with many people in different walks of life. She truly showed Jesus to those that were suffering. Cora loved painting and took time to make hand painted ceramic Christmas decorations for her children and grandchildren. She loved Christmas, and these will be cherished for years to come. She loved to grow a garden and was even handy with a rototiller. She loved flowers but had a special place in her heart for African Violets, and with her gentle guidance and care, she could nurse a single leaf into a beautiful flower. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Thomas. He was waiting at the Eastern Gate in Heaven for her. Others that have gone before her are son, James Tennefoss, her parents, and siblings: Doris (infant), Millard “Buddy” Schrock, Margaret Eby, Betty Sharp, and Anna Brenneman. She is survived by siblings: Olive Mast, Wanda Kehl, Sarah Escaro, and Eli Truman Schrock. Her children: David (Ruth) Tennefoss, Janice (Marlin) Schrock, Linda (Merlin) Schrock, Joseph (Dorothy) Tennefoss,Thomas III (Jolene) Tennefoss, Michael (Carel) Tennefoss, and Cynthia (Lawrence) Green, and a loving daughter, Anita “Penny” (Donnie) Sharp. Her love knew no bounds and her heart was full and caring for many other families and children that called her “Mom” among those are her children: Russell (preceded in death) William, and Christopher Porter, Christina Parker, Warren Nichols, Randy Willey, and Betsy Schneider. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. What a legacy to live to be 90 years old and to know and see the spread of life and love in your family through 4 generations. Friends are invited to Burial and Service Saturday, January 2nd 1:30pm at the Tressler Mennonite Church Cemetery, Greenwood, DE.
