    Glenda F Byler

    February 26, 1950 - July 4, 2020

    Glenda Fern Byler died peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, on July 4, 2020 at 7:35pm in Greenwood, DE after battling pancreatic cancer. She was 70. Glenda was born on February 26, 1950 in Greenwood, DE to Mark and Ella (Yoder) Swartzentruber. She was married to Norman W. Byler Jr. on December 15, 1973 in Greenwood, DE. Glenda was a faithful member of Greenwood Mennonite Church and was an encouragement to many people. She was actively involved in sewing circle and spent many years working in the Greenwood Mennonite School cafeteria. She was a loving wife, mother and grandma who cared deeply and prayed often for her family. She was a friend to many and always had a heart to help others. She could often be found taking time to pick blueberries and strawberries for other people, and enjoyed freezing and canning garden produce for her children. She loved to crochet and sew and crafted many beautiful afghans and blankets for family, friends and cancer patients at the Nanticoke Cancer Center over the years. She always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and made each one feel special and loved. She was a master at gift giving and took special care in picking out gifts and wrote meaningful messages in cards and letters. She is survived by husband of 46 years Norman Byler; six siblings: Marlin (Iona) Swartzentruber of Greenwood, DE, Linford (Joanne) Swartzentruber of Lititz, PA, Goldie (Paul) Fretz of Marion, PA, Verla (Dave) Byler of Appling, GA, Roger (Wava) Swartzentruber of Greenwood, DE, Daisy Miller of Elkhart, IN; three daughters: Wendy (Kevin) Mayer of Rosedale OH, Starla (Nathan) Bechtel of Seaford, DE, and Catrina (Scott) Kauffman of Greenwood, DE; seven grandchildren: Evan and Ellie Mayer, Mason and Nova Bechtel, and Mia, Finn and Logan Kauffman. She was preceded in death by parents Mark and Ella Swartzentruber and brother Duane Swartzentruber. Funeral services will be held on July 11, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Greenwood Mennonite School. Burial will follow at Greenwood Mennonite Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Friday evening July 10 at Greenwood Mennonite School. There will also be opportunity to view the body one hour before the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either: Greenwood Mennonite Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 246, Greenwood, DE 19950 or online at greenwoodmennonitechurch.org; or Chariots for Hope, 1601 N Limekiln Pike, Dresher, PA 19025 or online at chariotsforhope.org.
