Addie Elizabeth Beulah's Obituary
Addie Dyer Elizabeth Boston Wilson Beulah quietly stole away to glory from her home on Friday, December 27, 2013, she was 96 years old.
Addie was born November 3, 1917, and was the daughter of the late
Colley Boston and the late Anne Eliza Dyer Boston.
She received her primary education at a one-room schoolhouse near Clark Road and was a 1935 graduate of Lockerman School. She was previously married to the late Robert Wilson, of this union she had one daughter, Juanita Wilson. She was later married to the late Charles Beulah, of this union she had one daughter, Cynthia Beulah.
During her incredible life span, Addie has seen many country roads, and traveled to many states. The country road named Dyer Road, near Concord, was a family namesake, where her birthplace home still remains. She loved to tell stories of how she had to walk those long dirt roads to catch the wooden bench seated-bus to school. As the only child, she worked along her father, mother and others in their own fields on the homeplace property. She was never a stranger to hard work.
She always had a secret passion for Home Economics and was accepted to Howard University, but opted, to take care of her ailing father. Later she ventured from Caroline County to pursue a job where she could use these skills. She found herself in New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida (Delray Beach was one of her favorites) and some stops in between working as a Domestic Manager for many prominent private residences. She was a very humble lady, but leaked out the opportunity that she had a chance to cook for the “Galloping Gourmet” and “Julia Childs”. In her retirement she continued to travel with her children to places such as Maine (sorry, no lobster to be found), Canada, Florida, and the Bahamas.
As a young child, Addie was a member and attended church with her parents, of the now closed, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where you could find her regularly playing the piano as an adult. Later she became a lifetime member of Ross Chapel AME Church, where she attended until her health began to hinder her visits.
She leaves to cherish her memories; two daughters, Juanita Harmon (Theodore) of Denton, Cynthia Brummell (Kevin) of Preston; three grandchildren, Theo Harmon (Nancy) of Orange Park, FL, Kevin Brummell, II of Preston, and Sierra Brummell of Federalsburg; two great-grandchildren, Antonio Harmon of Denton and Avia Harmon of Orange Park, FL,; two great-great-grandchildren, Kayden Banks of Hurlock and Austin Harmon of Denton; one remaining first cousin, Ernestine Taliaferro of Philadelphia, PA,; Elfie her beloved dog, and more family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Ross Chapel AME Church, Preston, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Charles M. Walker officiating. A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Interment will follow at Coker’s Cemetery near Greensboro.
