I was so sorry to hear about Poppah’s passing. The Forster clan really loved him. My paternal grandparents died when we were very young so we have always seen Nana and Poppah as our surrogate grandparents. We loved coming out to see them for our annual sailing camp during the summers. Those weeks are some of my favorite childhood memories.
Poppah and I shared a passion for history and my white Volvo station wagon. He never failed to ask after my cars well-being and would always note that my Volvo is “really a very good, safe, reliable car.” After I would assure him that the car was still running, we would eventually fall into the topic of our shared love of military history. He had a seemingly endless supply of fascinating little facts to share (much like his son with baseball trivia) and I felt special that he shared them with me.
He was whip-smart, funny, and such a lively spirit who will be missed greatly. We wish we could be with Nana right now but are looking forward to coming out to St. Michaels soon to celebrate Poppah’s life with her. I’ll make the journey in the Volvo.
The Forster Family (Bebe, Bill, Kimmie, Stephen, Ali and David) will miss Poppah Rolaid. I don't know too many people who would invite a family with four kids along with their own son, daughter-in-law and their three children to spend a week living in their 2 bedroom condominium with them in St. Michaels to attend sailing lessons! Both Mama and Poppah LoRe were so kind and generous to let us all come and stay and take over their comfortable quiet home . It was always so much fun and we have so many fond memories of those times. My kids called Mamah and Popah Rolaid their "other" grandparents. Love always
We will miss sweet “Poppah Rolaid”! We was so funny and always had treats and full size candy bars for his grandchildren and our kids. He was so funny and always got everyone in the room laughing with his wit. We miss and love you Poppah!!! Love all of the Buchanan’s. Xoxoxox
