Birth date: Sep 29, 1934 Death date: Oct 28, 2017
Alan Thomas Poore, Sr, “Big Al” passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2017 surrounded by his family at his home in Bozman, Maryand. He was 83. He was born in Bozman, Maryland on September 29, 1934 the son of the late William Gilbe Read Obituary

It was our privilege to have known Big Al and the Poore family for nearly twenty years.
Living in Wales, UK, we continue to make frequent visits to the Poores and in particular to Larry, Sharon and their family. We remember with the fondest of memories Big Al's booming voice, his passion for life, the Orioles, his pool duck and his dedication to his work and family.
We would like to dedicate an abridged version of the poem below to the life and memory of Big Al:
Character of the Happy Warrior
By William Wordsworth
Who is the happy Warrior? Who is he
That every man in arms should wish to be?
—It is the generous Spirit, who, when brought
Among the tasks of real life, hath wrought
Upon the plan that pleased his boyish thought:
Whose high endeavours are an inward light
That makes the path before him always bright;
Who, with a natural instinct to discern
What knowledge can perform, is diligent to learn;
Abides by this resolve, and stops not there,
But makes his moral being his prime care.
And, while the mortal mist is gathering, draws
His breath in confidence of
Heaven's applause
This is the happy Warrior; this is he
That every man in arms should wish to be.
Our most sincere condolences

I was so sorry to hear of Big Al's Passing. He was a true Eastern Shoreman and a gentleman. While it has been many years since I moved away from Bozman, I remember the Poore family and Big Al well. I know he left behind a legacy of friendship and family that will live on to preserve the wonderful memories he created throughout his life. He was truly bigger than life and will be missed by many. The entire Poore Family is in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

We are so sad that "BIG AL" left us so soon.
We saw him at the Hospice House a few times,
but he may not have recognized us.
A BLESSING HE DID NOT HAVE TO SUFFER AS SOME DO.
GOD BLESS

"The Waterman’s Prayer"
Today I sail with God’s good grace
To a far off distant shore
Where fish a plenty will fill my nets
Hard work – today no chore!
When time and tides diminish thus
Shed not a tear for me
For I’m a brave strong waterman
I sail the calm blue sea
