A. Lee Cheezum's Obituary
Lee Cheezum passed away on April 27, 2011 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore following a short illness.
Lee was born August 25, 1950, the son of D. Mason and Eleanor Cheezum of Preston. He graduated from Colonel Richardson High School in 1968, and from East Carolina University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in urban planning in 1973.
For much of his adult life, he farmed with his brother, Tom, in the Preston area. He also worked in real estate and for H&R Block, and devoted many years to caring for elderly family members. An enthusiastic boater, Lee spent many summers entertaining friends and relatives on the Choptank River, and he enjoyed exploring the many waterways in and around Preston and the Eastern Shore. He was an avid reader, loved music and black and white movies, and enjoyed vacationing in Mexico with friends and family.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, and by several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife, Deborah, whom he married on December 31, 1992; three brothers, Thomas (Mary), Dave (Debe), and Dan (Myla); numerous nieces and nephews, Tom (Christy), Eric, Dave, and Beth Cheezum, Cory, Becky, David, and Julie Schmidt, Kara Erskine (Huey), Abby Andrews (Clark), and Dorothy Thomason (Barry); and several grandnephews and grandnieces. He is also survived by his uncle and aunt, William and Marie Taylor, of Michigan, and several cousins.
Funeral services will take place Tuesday, May 3, at 11:00 am, at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Preston. Rev. William Cruikshank will officiate. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, May 2, from 6 to 8 pm at Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg, and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
