Alma M. Jones' Obituary
Alma M. Jones of Laurel, DE passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. She was 92.
She was born on June 29, 1921 in Secretary, MD, the daughter of the late George Spear and Bessie Todd Spear. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Worley Lee Powell, Sr. and Arthur Jones.
She graduated from Hurlock High School class of 1940. She retired from Bell Atlantic and C&P. Alma was a faithful member of New Liberty Wesleyan Church in Federalsburg and served as a former Sunday School Teacher and sung in the choir. She also attended the Laurel Senior Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Virginia Powell of Federalsburg, four grandchildren, Rodney (Crystal) Welch, Lisa (Jimmy) Russ, Robert Powell, Bambi (David) Brown, 11 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren, and her best friend, Patsy Whitely. She was also preceded in death by a son, Worley Powell, Jr., four brothers, Willie, Lehman, Carville, & Harry Spear, and three sisters, Rosalee Quillen, Georgie Chambers, & Mamie Messick.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 3p.m. at New Liberty Wesleyan Church in Federalsburg with Pastor Eddie Elms officiating. Interment with follow at Unity-Washington Cemetery in Hurlock. A visitation will be held at the church from 2-3 p.m. on Thursday.
