Anthony Drummond's Obituary
CHESTER - Mr. Anthony Drummond of Chester, died on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 in the Hospice of Queen Anne’s in Centreville. Mr. Drummond was 84.
Mr. Drummond was born on September 14, 1927, in Preston, England. Before emigrating to the United States, Mr. Drummond served in the British Navy near the end of World War II and was an architecture student at the University of Liverpool. In the early 1950s, Mr. Drummond arrived in New York City. He quickly became a U.S. citizen and promptly volunteered for service in the U.S. Air Force. He was trained as a radar specialist in Biloxi, Mississippi and, ironically, was stationed at a U.S. Air Force base in Middlesex, England. Mr. Drummond, with his wife and first-born child, returned to the United States in 1955.
For many years, Mr. Drummond worked as an engineer and editor for ARINC in Washington D.C. and Annapolis. In 1972, he founded Fishergate, Inc., a graphic design and book production company, now located in Chester. Mr. Drummond was naturally inquisitive and accomplished in a variety of artistic, literary, musical, aviation, construction, and architectural endeavors. He was, in every sense of the phrase, a “Renaissance man.”
Mr. Drummond is survived by his children and their spouses, Christopher and Cindy Drummond, Queenstown; Susan Vianna, Chester; Colin and Kathleen Drummond, Maple Glen, Pennsylvania; and Alison and Craig Wilson, Chalottesville, Virginia. He was predeceased by his daughter, Barbara Drummond Mead, but was proud to remain close with her husband, Charles Mead, Chester. Mr. Drummond is also survived by his sister and her husband, Jean and Kenneth Longley, Surrey, England. Dorothy Moss, another sister, predeceased him. Mr. Drummond is survived by ten grandchildren. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Katherine R. Drummond.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, Chester, on Monday, September 17, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. Burial services will be private. Donations in Mr. Drummond’s memory may be sent to Hospice of Queen Anne’s, 255 Comet Drive, Centreville, Maryland 21617.
