Bernard Joseph ("Izzy") Davidson's Obituary
We called him Bernie, Dad, Daddy, Izzy, Iz, and Poppy. He was our husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, friend, advisor, family partiarch...but most of all for so many of us he was our rock.
He was the person we leaned on, who worried about all of us, who we went to for advice, the person to tell us the best and right way to do things and to make us laugh all along the way. He was a giant of a man, larger than life, someone who could talk to anyone and who was quick to extend his hand and befriend a stranger. He was a gift to everyone that had the fortune of knowing him. He married the love of his life, Virginia "Ginny" Horbach at the age of 21 and they had four beautiful children, Colleen, Brian, Cynthia and Sean. They recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. When his children married, he opened his heart to their spouses, Thom, Kenny and Kellie as if they were his own. He also was the proud "Poppy" to seven grandchildren- Kelsey, Griffin, Mairade, Zoee, Darci, Liam and Shane. He also, was the loving brother of Betty and Bill. His famiy was his favorite pastime (although Nascar racing and fishing were a close second and third) and this past weekend we were all together celebrating his grandchild, Griffin's graduation, a wonderful memory to cherish and hold in our hearts. Izzy loved St. Michael's, Maryland and he loved Montauk, New York. In St. Michael's he tended to his fish pond that he would proudly tell you he built himself and made a sport out of feeding the birds, especially the cardinals, and outsmarting the squirrels that always were trying to get to the birdfeeders. In Montauk, he "putzed" around here and there and always had a project going, he loved just sitting on the deck and watching the sun go down as the sunset blazed, and then there was fishing....He loved to fish, and would often comment on the weather in terms of suitibility for fishing--"Its really blowing out there" was a give away for all who knew him that he probably wasn't catching any that day. Simply said, his family and friends loved him and will miss him terribly. But we know he's up in heaven with his brothers Jack and Dennis and his friends Larry and Jules, making them laugh, and fishing his heart out.
