Bernice Arner's Obituary
Bernice Louise (Lare) Arner of Greenwood, DE went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Sunday, August 1, 2021. She has heard the words she longed to hear, "Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the Joy of the Lord." She was 85.
Bernice was born in Smithville, MD on November 29, 1935. Her parents were John Palmer and Sallie Ann (Willin) Lare. She lived her life for others and had many names; Mom, Mom B, Me Me, Bernice, Burnice, and Aunt B.
She had a family daycare in her home for over 40 years. She had a heart for children. She and her husband also had a family Christian bookstore for many years in her home. She met many wonderful people through those doors and enjoyed her ministry there.
Bernice was one of the founding members of Denton Wayside Church of Christ in Christian Union, established 1975. There she served many areas, most recently being trustee and worship song leader. Her compassion was seeing people come to church and give their hearts to Christ. Her enjoyment was attending Southern Gospel Concerts with her family and opening her home for food and lodging to many singers, especially the Anchormen Quartet. She loved and cared for her dog, "Izzy" and she so enjoyed the visits, trips to the grocery stores, and many late night talks on the phone with friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years; Harold Arner and their baby son; Ronald Harold Arner.
She is survived by her daughter; Susan Arner, brother; Tink Lare (Betty Jean) of Seaford, nephews; Toby, Kevin, Damien, Dillon, and their families, several cousins and five godchildren whom she dearly loved; Cheryl Dawn Holbrook (Jeremy), Tracey Honess (Frank), Ashley Crow (Mike), Jason Weaber (Stephanie), Savanna Morris (Justin), and their children.
She had two in her life that she loved as daughters; Carol Allman (Bud) of Cincinatti, OH, and Christine Weaber (Lee) of Greenwood, DE. She also leaves to cherish her memories the many daycare children and their families, church family and friends. She will be greatly missed. She touched many lives. Much Love, thanks, and appreciation to all the staff on the 3rd floor at Nanticoke Tidal Health Hospital.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 9, 2021 at 1pm at Denton Wayside Churches of Christ In Christian Union with Reverend Leland Allman and Reverend Jeff Donihue officiating.
