Bertha W. Frase's Obituary
Bertha Wilhelmina Frase of Preston, known fondly as “Aunt Bert”, passed away at William Hill Manor in Easton on Monday, January 19, 2009. She was 94.
She was born on November 2, 1914 near Friendship, Maryland. She was the daughter of the late Gustav C. Frase and Augusta Hintz Frase.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Preston where she had taught Sunday School in her younger years. She was a caregiver for her father until his passing. She moved to New York to live with her sister and brother-in-law. She worked for Hazeltine Corporation for fifteen years on Long Island. In New York she received her G.E.D. and was extremely proud of this accomplishment. She taught Sunday School at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rivershead, NY for over twenty years and also was a member of their Mary Martha Alter Guild. In the mid 70’s she walked the streets of Riverhead to collect donations for children with Down Syndrome. After retiring in 1982, she moved back to Preston. She was very active in the Ladies Aide at Immanuel Lutheran until her passing.
She loved to travel, collect spoons from her travels, collecting stamps and giving them to others, and enjoyed taking care of the flowers in her yard. She was a babysitter for her nieces and nephews and their families. She was a true caregiver to many and truly loved her family.
She is survived by a brother, Leo F. Frase of Preston, sixteen nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Woodhull, Albertine Guild, Augusta Gauchat, Edward Frase, William Frase, Earl Frase, Leroy Frase, Lillie Bickling, Charles “Butch” Frase, Linda Ann Frase, Emil Frase, Jr., Carl Frase, Pamela Bilbrough, Warren Frase, Mark Frase, and Barbara Andrew, and their families, and two sisters-in-law, Rosalie Frase, and Sarah Frase. She was preceded in death by six siblings, Emma Quidas, Fred Frase, Emil Frase, Sr., Phillip Frase, Gustav Frase, Richard Frase, three nephews, Paul Frase, Daniel Frase, Gusey Frase, and one niece, Janice Frase.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 11 a.m at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Preston with Rev. Edwin Thress officiating. Interment will follow at Junior Order Cemetery in Preston. Friends may call at Framptom Funeral Home on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
