Betsy Watkins Sterling's Obituary
Betsy Watkins Sterling of Snow Hill, Maryland passed away at Berlin Nursing Home on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. She was 90.
She was born on July 8, 1923 in Rhodesdale, Maryland, the daughter of the late Harley Guy Watkins and Susan Elizabeth Townsend Watkins.
She graduated from Vienna High School. She was married to Richard Lee Sterling, Sr who preceded her in death in 2002. She served in the United States Army in the Women’s Air Corp (WAC) and was honorably discharged in 1946. She worked as a supervisor/operator at E.I. DuPont at the Seaford Nylon plant from 1942-1952. After raising her family, she worked in the hotel industry in Ocean City until 2001.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, an avid reader, bowling and painting.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Lee Sterling, Jr and his wife Glenda of Wilmington, DE, Ronald G Sterling and his wife Dawn of Snow Hill, three grandchildren, Christian Sutton of Wilmington, DE, Melanie Sterling of Snow Hill and Natalie Sterling of Snow Hill, two brothers, Stengle Watkins of Bridgeville, and Harley Watkins and his wife Madeline of Laurel, DE, two sisters, Arintha “Rinky” Kinnamon of Seaford, and Nora Evans of Hurlock, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by seventeen brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 1:00 at the Framptom Funeral Home with Reverend Denzil T. Cheek officiating. Interment will follow in McKendree Cemetery near Rhodesdale. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00.
