Betty Anthony's Obituary
Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Hackett Anthony of Federalsburg, MD passed away on Sat. May 10, 2008 at her home with her family. She was 76.
She was born April 24, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA, the last surviving child of the late Stella Bender Hackett and Benjamin Hooper Hackett.
The family moved to Federalsburg when she was 13 months old. She graduated in 1949 from Federalsburg High School, and she loved attending her high school reunions and being with her classmates. After graduation she worked in the school office, and then worked at the former J. W. Stowell Printing Co. from 1950 until it closed in 1981. She then worked for the former IGA until her retirement in 1994. On July 16, 1952 Betty was married to Dawson Anthony. They built their home in Federalsburg in 1957 after his return from the Air Force in 1955, where they lived today.
Betty retired from the Federalsburg Fire Company Auxiliary after 56 years of active service, serving twice as president. Betty was also a member of the Union United Methodist Church in Federalsburg where she especially enjoyed working at dinners with Jewell, Lucille and Virginia.
Betty is survived by her husband of nearly 56 years, Dawson Anthony, two children, Joyce Lewis and her husband Mark of Cambridge, Bruce Anthony of Federalsburg, 7 grandchildren, David Werner, Jr., Jeremy Werner and his wife, Nicki, Jaclyn Anthony (Jimmy Todd) all of Federalsburg, Nicole Hastings and her husband Ronnie, and Elizabeth “Liza” Hitch and her husband Will, all of Delmar, Brandon Werner and his wife, Melody of Cambridge, and Steven Atkinson of Trappe; 8 great-grandchildren, Ronnie, III, Christabelle, Billy, Kaylie, Joshua, Zachary, Dylan, and Michael. She is also survived by her best friends, Betty Shufelt (and her son, Jamie), of Federalsburg, Virginia Drabbant, of Felton, DE, a former daughter-in-law Brenda Liddell of Federalsburg, sister-in-law Ella Hackett of Federalsburg, many nieces, nephews, and a special niece Terri Batuyong and her family of Germantown, MD, and 2 cats, Sno and Dusty. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Brian Edward Anthony in 1994, her siblings, George Hackett (1953), Mary Beth LeCates (1995), James Carol Hackett (2002), Harry Hackett (2003) and 3 infant brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Wed. May 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with Rev. Danese Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Federalsburg. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
