Betty Lou Cordrey's Obituary
Betty Lou Cordrey of Seaford passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at UMSMC at Dorchester. She was 82.
She was born in Clyde, Ohio on February 9, 1933, daughter of the late Dwight R. Smith and Mary Ery Smith. She graduated from Federalsburg High School with the class of 1951. Betty continued her education at James Madison University where she graduated in 1955 with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education. During her time at James Madison University, she was the editor of the College Breeze, the school newspaper and was ranked in the Who’s Who among top students at the university. She began her teaching career for the Arlington County Public System and worked for the county for 20 years. She enjoyed being part of a bridge club in Arlington in which she played with her teacher friends. She was a coach of Gino’s Giants a girls softball team which became Little League Champions under her coaching. She was a member of Seaford Country Club for over twenty years.
Her greatest legacy in which she will be forever remembered as a loving wife, mother, and treasured friend.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James L. Cordrey whom she married on July 28, 1956, a son, Randy Cordrey and his wife, Lucy of Miami, a granddaughter, Jennifer Perez of Miami, a brother-in-law, Tom Cordrey and his wife, Betty Ann of Salisbury, three nieces, Jamie Story of Temecula, California, Keli Lydell of Sacramento, California, Karen Bailey of Salisbury, and a nephew, Jim Cordrey of Salisbury. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Cordrey and her twin brother, Bobby Smith.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with Rev. Denzil Cheek officiating. A viewing will be held on Monday, April 6, 2015 from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home and a visitation one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Cemetery.
