Billy Ames' Obituary
Billy Ames, of Laurel, DE, passed away on January 19, 2020 at Seasons Hospice in Newark, DE. He was 70.
He was born on January 3, 1950, in Laurel, DE, the son of the late Samuel Ames and Anna Mildred Mason Ames.
He was a cook at the Stockley Center for over 36 years. Upon retirement from the Stockley Center, he volunteered many hours at Family Court and The Cheer Center, Georgetown, DE. He was a longtime member of St. Matthews First Baptist Church in Laurel, DE. He enjoyed going out to eat, going to movies, family vacations, holidays at Debbie’s house, and spending time with his friends and family.
He is survived by his siblings, Dorothy Gilbert (Willie), Peggy John, Kenneth Ames, Samuel Ames, Jr., Eddie Ames, God-sister, Bonnie Stancell, lifelong friend, Debbie Short (Kevin), and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his adopted nephew Rob Holson, and good friends Harold and Dora Short.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, June Seymour, a sister, Mary Brown, and his loving God-mother, Doris Bailey.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2020, at 12:00pm at St. Matthews First Baptist Church in Laurel, DE, with Pastor Erron Truitt officiating. A visitation will be held from 11 am-12 pm prior to the start of the service. Interment will be held at St. Matthews Cemetery in Laurel, DE, immediately following the service.
