Calvin Mearl Smith's Obituary
Calvin Mearl Smith Sr. of Federalsburg passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023 at Tidal Health at Nanticoke in Seaford, DE. He was 91.
He was born on August 8, 1932 in Queenstown, Maryland; the son of the late Eli Smith and Lyda Bickelan Smith.
He was married in 1952 to Dorothy Louise Kemp and they made their home in Queen Anne and later moved to Federalsburg. She preceded him in death on December 28, 2013 after 61 years of marriage.
He enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1952 and was Honorably discharged in 1954.
He worked as a waterman on the Wye River most all of his life. He was a member of Bloomery United Methodist Church where he loved to sing. In his free time, he loved watching and feeding his birds and ducks. He was an avid sports fan supporting the Baltimore Orioles and also enjoyed watching any team play football.
He is survived by two sons: Calvin Smith, Jr. and his wife Debbie of Federalsburg and Michael Smith and his wife Debbie of Bridgeville; six grandchildren: Derek Smith and his wife Jen of Delaware, Taylor Smith and her fiancée Michael Little of Federalsburg, John Michael Smith of Federalsburg, Michael Smith, Jr. of Galestown, Melissa Smith and Shelby Barringer both of Federalsburg; 9 great grandchildren; and one sister Betty Clarke of Denton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Stevensville Cemetery with the Reverend Denzil T. Cheek officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg.
