Calvin Spedden's Obituary
Calvin Spedden, of Cokesbury, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at his home. He was 68.
He was born on November 18, 1947 in Cambridge, a son of the late Robert Spedden and Evelyn Matilda Willey. When he was 9 years old, he went to live with the late Harrington and Mary Smith of Williamsburg, MD. On June 3, 1967, he married the former Bonnie Colbourn.
Mr. Spedden worked as a can inspector for Continental Canning Company, which later became Crown Cork and Seal, where he retired with 35 years of service. Calvin’s first love was his family. Always, striving to provide the best for them, he held many jobs including O’Day’s U-Pick, Paradise Produce, Tea Tyme Antiques, Peebles, and Kool Ice Seaford and Car Wash. He was also a former coach for the Little League Baseball program. Calvin was a member of the Cokesbury United Methodist Church. Most of all, Calvin loved to make people laugh.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Colbourn Spedden, of Cokesbury, three sons, Brian Spedden, and his partner Jen English, of Salisbury, Barry Spedden, and his wife Kim, of Cokesbury, and Bruce Spedden, and his wife Stacy, of Seaford, six grandchildren, Nicole Spedden and her fiancé, Bryan Bennett, Connor Spedden, Lily Spedden, Blake Hodde, Makenzie Hodde, and Mackenzie Hawkins, a great-grandson, Grayson Spedden, two brothers, and two sisters. He is also survived by two foster brothers, David “Tink” Smith and Wayne Smith.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Cokesbury United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Penuel officiating. Interment will follow at Cokesbury Cemetery. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, Calvin’s wish was for memorial contributions to may be made to the Spedden Grandchildren Memorial Fund, c/o PNC Bank, 1200 West Stein Highway, Seaford, DE 19973.
