Carlene Gullette Schmick's Obituary
Carlene Gullette Schmick, formerly of Federalsburg, MD, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at her home in Easton. She was 92.
She was born on Smithville Road near Federalsburg on Oct. 27, 1920, the daughter of the late Daniel Carlton Gullette and Mary Kathryn Stafford Gullette. Her husband, Grant Kenneth Schmick, preceded her in death on March 10, 1979.
She was a graduate of Federalsburg High School Class of 1937, and later attended Strayer Business College in Baltimore, MD. She worked as a secretary for several businesses in Baltimore, Corpus Cristi, TX (when her husband was in the Navy), Preston and Federalsburg. For several years she wrote a weekly column for the former “Federalsburg Times” and later for the “Times Record” titled “Diary of a Glad Housewife.”
Her memberships included Union United Methodist Church, and was also an affiliate member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Easton, Caroline Chapter #62 Order of the Eastern Star, the Upper Shore Genealogical Society, Circle Homemakers Club, Caroline County Hospice Foundation and Choptank Investment Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Lauren Kay Andersen and her husband Sigurd of Wilmington, DE, and Lynn Carlene Reha and her husband J. Richard of Normal, IL, a son, Grant Kenneth Schmick, Jr. of Silver Spring, MD, three grandchildren, Matthew Reha, Christian Andersen and his wife Michelle, and Meagan Reha, and two nephews Joseph Glime and Steven Glime. A sister, Inez Glime, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held on Sat. June 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Union United Methodist Church in Federalsburg with Rev. David Heistand and Rev. Dr. Gilbert Anderson officiating,. An Order of the Eastern Star service will be held just prior to the religious service. Friends may call at the church on Sat. from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg.
