Carolyn M. Brinkley's Obituary
Carolyn Marie Hooper-Brinkley peacefully departed this life on July 28, 2023 at
the Caroline Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Denton, MD.
Born on August 12, 1950, she was the fourth of six children born to the late Iris
Mae Hooper and George Hayward Hooper of Federalsburg MD.
She was educated in the Caroline County Schools, attending Lockerman High
School for 2 years and graduating from Colonel Richardson High School in 1968.
She attended The University of Maryland Eastern Shore, then called Maryland State
College, for a short time. She later moved to Dover DE and worked for the Playtex
Company. There she met her husband James Brinkley. They were united in Holy
Matrimony on September 24,1977.
In 1979 her husband entered into the United States Army. Carolyn later joined him
and they spent time living in Germany and El Paso Texas. Carolyn loved working
with children and spent a lot of her time babysitting and working in early childhood
centers.
Carolyn's greatest love, next to her husband, was music. She loved playing the
piano. From her love of music came her greatest joy and accomplishment, forming
"The Second Generation Community Chorus. The choir derived its name from the
fact that most of its members were relatives or offspring of The Community
Chorus of Zion United Methodist Church of Federalsburg, Md which was formed
more than 70 years ago. The choir started with only 3 members, they were; Brenda
Magee, Anita Prileau, and Carolyn Brinkley. It grew to as many as 45 members as
years went by. The choir traveled extensively and lasted for 31 years.
Carolyn was a member of Union Bethel AME Church in Denton, MD, where the
Rev. Pearl Jeter was her pastor. She loved her church family. She played the piano
and sang in the choir.
Carolyn leaves to mourn, two brothers, Kenneth L. Hooper and Ralph E. Hooper
(Michele); one sister Ambia V. Hooper, one uncle Kendall Magee, and three aunts
Constance Hawkins, Louise Magee and Betty White Magee; one niece, Dr. Stacia
K. Wilkins(Andre); two nephews, Lamont Antoine Hooper and Robert Conway
Hooper II; one great niece Ryan Haynes; and a host of cousins.
Expressions of sympathy can be mailed to Ambia Hooper, P.O. Box 274, Federalsburg, MD 21632.
