Charles W. Behme's Obituary
Charles W. Behme Dover, DE. Charles Wesley Behme of Dover, DE. formerly of St. Michaels, died at the State Street Assisted Living Home, in Dover, on Wednesday, July 2, 2014. He was 95. Born on September 19, 1918 in Mason City, Iowa, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Ida Matson Behme. He attended public school in Chicago, IL; where he excelled on the swim team. Following his graduation in 1936, Mr. Behme married the former Eileen Weseman, they made their home in Bedminster, N.J. until he was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps on May 23, 1944. He served his country honorably during WWII in the Pacific theater, where he received a Purple Heart for wounds received, on June 12, 1945 during a battle on Okinawa. After his honorable discharge he return to N.J. where he worked as a salesman until his retirement, when he was 68 years old. In 1987 he and his wife moved to St. Michaels. Mrs. Behme died on September 5, 2011, in 2013 Mr. Behme moved to Dover, DE. Mr. Behme was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish, he loved to snow ski and was a member of the 70+ Ski Club, having learned to ski when he was 69 years old. Mr. Behme is survived by two daughters; Barbara B. Fajnor and her husband John, of Felton, DE Charleen Demetrio and her husband James, of Newark, DE; seven grandchildren; Christine Owens, John W. Fajnor, Lisa F. Karcher, Charles W. Fajnor, Jennifer Sparo, Holly Zaklareko and Alyssa Brodrick. Also survived by 13 Great-grandchildren a, and one Great-Great grandchild. In addition to his parents, wife, Mr. Behme was preceded in death two brothers; Nicholas and Eugene, and a son; Wesley E. Behme who died while serving in the U.S. Navy in 1966. A memorial service will be held at the Ostrowski Funeral Home, St. Michaels, MD. on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 11:00AM. Burial will be in the Maryland Eastern-Shore, Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock, MD.
