Charles E. Haddaway
Neavitt, Charles E. “Skipper” Haddaway, died at the Memorial Hospital, Easton, on Friday, August 2, 2013. He was 70. Born in Neavitt on December 25, 1942 he was the son of the late William James and Helen Wayman Haddaway. Mr. Haddaway, or “Skipper” as he was known by all, was raised by his Aunt and Uncle, Buck and Perk Newnam of Neavitt. After graduating from St. Michaels High School in 1960, Skipper began a lifelong career as a waterman. Skipper worked for a brief time as a mail clerk at the Mail Processing Plant in Easton. He loved being outdoors in every sense of the word. He was an avid hunter, fisherman crabber, and oysterman. He very much enjoyed goose, duck and deer hunting. He played all types of sports as well, he was a member and coach of the former Broad Creek soft ball team as well as teams in Cambridge and the Bay Hundred area. He played basketball and volleyball at the Talbot County Y.M.C.A and also bowled on several leagues until his health would no longer permit him to play. Skipper is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years Patricia (Day), whom he married in August 1962, a daughter; Lisa Kelly Bodensick and her husband Edward of Bozman, three grandsons; David B. Phillips, Jr, Macklin B. Phillips and John Edward “Jeb” Bodensick, three brothers; Steven Haddaway of Hurlock, Kenny Haddaway of St. Michaels, and James Brent Haddaway and his wife Tina of Easton. He is also survived by many cousins but in particular Robert (Pie) Haddaway, whom he considered a brother. Also survived by his Step-father Kenneth (Steve) Haddaway of Hurlock. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00PM on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Ostrowski Funeral Home, St. Michaels. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, August 8th at the Neavitt United Methodist Church, Neavitt, MD. Burial will be in the Neavitt Cemetery.
