Charles Nathaniel Hawkins Jr.'s Obituary
Charles Nathanial Hawkins, Jr., 78, of Federalsburg, MD, departed this life peacefully in his sleep on Friday, June 6, 2015.
He was born April 21, 1937 in Washington, DC, to the late Charles Nathanial Hawkins, Sr. and the late Louise Cooley Hawkins.
After graduation from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, MD, in 1955, he began his long career with Walsh and Koehler Glass Company. During his employment as a glazer with Walsh and Koehler, he installed glass in the Washington Monument and the White House. In 1984, Mr. Hawkins moved to Federalsburg, MD, from Mechanicsville, MD and raised chickens for Allen's Farm's for 12 years. In 1992, he began his employment with the Caroline County Department of Public Works until his retirement. He was a "people person" and loved talking to everyone .Mr. Hawkins and his many friends were part of the beginning days of NASCAR during the 1960s. He loved watching the popularity of NASCAR grow over the years. He appreciated music, especially listening to Bluegrass and Gospel. His love for gospel music carried over to his great faith and love for the Lord and his family.
Mr. Hawkins was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He is survived by the love of his life, Florence, his wife of 41 years. In addition, he is survived by his four children, William (Audrey) Hawkins, Sr. of Mechanicsville, MD, Charles Hawkins, III, Garrett Hawkins, and Mary Hawkins, all of Federalsburg, MD, his five grandchildren, Audrey (Donald) Quade, William (Mallory) Hawkins, Jr., Stephen Hawkins of Mechanicsville, MD, Eugene Lewis III and Trent Lewis of Federalsburg, MD, three great-grandchildren, Alaina Quade, Cameron Quade, and Chloe Quade all of Mechanicsville, MD, as well as three sisters, Phyllis Weaver, Maryann Bishop and Sharon Bowie of LA Plata, MD, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Monday, June 15, 2015, at 1:00 pm at Framptom Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg, MD with the Reverend Howard "Buddy" Dunn officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting for donations to the Parkinson's disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018 and to take time to hug your loved ones, tell each of them what they mean to you and be thankful for the moments you have.
