Charles V. Gorman's Obituary
Charles V. Gorman of Hurlock passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Seaford Center Genesis Eldercare in Seaford, DE. He was 97.
He was born on February 2, 1911 in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late Frank and Marie Urablic Vostreys. He came as a very young boy to live with and became a beloved member of the family of Watson and Ethel Medford and their son Otis, his foster family in Hurlock. In 1940 he married Elizabeth V. Nichols Gorman who preceded him in death on October 25, 1996.
He served his country in World War II by enlisting in the United States Army on June 1, 1942 where he served as a mess sergeant with the 264th Headquarters Signal Service Battalion 43 in the Aleutian Islands in the South Pacific for 3 ½ years until being discharged on December 5, 1945
He was a baker for 25 years at the former Hurlock Bakery. He retired from Continental Can Company in 1978 after working there for 13 years. He was a longtime member and dedicated worker at First Baptist Church in Hurlock. He was also a lifetime member for over 60 years at American Legion Post 243 in Hurlock.
He leaves his care giver of many years Kitty Medford of Seaford, DE, and her son Wayne Medford and daughter Rose M. Fluharty and their families and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 22, 2008 at Framptom Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg with Troy Glessner officiating. Interment will follow at Unity-Washington Cemetery in Hurlock. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10-11 a.m. on Friday.
