Clara E. Latka
Easton, Clara Estelle Latka, of Easton, formerly of Oxford, died at the William Hill Manor on Wednesday, January 9, 2013. She was 94. Born on February 11, 1918, in Calvert County, Md. She was the daughter of the late, Columbus Washington Bafford and Rebecca J. Barrett Bafford. Having grown up in Lusby, Calvert Co; she attended public school there, she later moved to Baltimore where she received her nursing degree from Franklin Square Hospital School of Nursing. In 1938 she married Anthony A. Latka; they continued to make their home in Baltimore. Mr. Latka died in 1985. Mrs. Latka was a devoted caregiver. She worked as a registered nurse at Franklin Square Hospital, and Sinai Hospital both in Baltimore. She did private duty nursing care, and volunteer work at the Memorial Hospital since moving to the Eastern shore. Mrs. Latka had also worked at the Dixon House in Easton. She loved her home in Oxford where she enjoyed working in her garden, spending time with her grandchildren, and her dog Tibet. Mrs. Latka was a former member of St. Michael the Archangel in Baltimore where she had attended for more than 40 years; she was also a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish in Easton. Mrs. Latka is survived by her children; Brenda J. Latka, Ph.D. of Bozman, Janet P. Dwyer, CLD, of Newcomb, and Jean A. Edwards, C.P.A. of Royal Oak, one sister; Anna Orlando of Whaleyville, MD; seven grandchildren; Susan Callahan Aistrup, Paul Callahan, Wendy Callahan Roland, Michael Edwards, Mary Katherine Edwards, John Edwards, and Elizabeth Edwards Marshall, nine Great-grandchildren and one Great Great-grandson. In addition to her parents, and husband she was also preceded in death by a son George Latka. Friends may call at the Ostrowski Funeral Home in St. Michaels on Sunday, January 13th from 3:00 to 4:30PM. A Funeral liturgy will be celebrated at noon on Monday January 14, 2013 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 10 Willow Ave., Baltimore, MD. 21206. Burial will follow at Parkwood Cemetery, Baltimore, MD.
