Clara A. Cooper
St. Michaels, Clara A. Cooper of St. Michaels, departed this life at the Hospice of Queen Anne’s, on Saturday, August 17, 2013 after a lengthy illness. She was 69. Clara was born on January 25, 1944 in Bridgetown, VA. To the late Robert R. and Annie Jo Giddens. She was the second oldest of seven children. Clara Ann was educated in the Northampton Co. public School system and was a member of the 1963 graduating class. Clara received her baptism at the Bethel Baptist Church in Franktown, VA., and was an active member there until she moved. When she was 18 years old she moved to St. Michaels, there she worked for a short time for the local clam factory, later she would work for such places as Perdue, Fashion Bug, Grayblock and Playtex until she retired for health reasons. Clara was an excellent cook. She will be remembered by all for her famous crab cakes, macaroni and cheese, yeast rolls, and sweet potato pie. Her family will miss her chocolate chip cookies which she gave generously as Christmas gifts. During her illness Mrs. Cooper looked forward to the visits by her pastor, Rev. Emanuel Johnson. Clara Ann is survived by her devoted husband of 33 years Richard Cooper, who was also her faithful & devoted caregiver. She also leaves to cherish her memory four children; Kennard E. Smith, Jr.,and Velda M. Smith both of St. Michaels, Rodney O. Smith of Denton, Latrivia K. Cooper of St. Michaels and one step-son Richard McClease of Baltimore. Six siblings; Robert Giddens (Louise) of N.C., Irene Dickerson, of DE., Cleo Holbrook (Ernest), of DE., Furgestine Head (Jesse) ,of TX., Juanita Brooks (Henson), of DE., Clarence Giddens (Judy) also of DE., 16 Grandchildren, 4 Great-Grandchildren, one sister-in-law Annie B. Butler and one brother-in-law John W. Tripline (Marcia). A very special niece and caregiver Jean M. Butler and a special cousin William Harmon whom was like a son. Also survived by numerous cousins’ extended family & friends. Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, August 23, 2013, at Union United Methodist Church, St. Michaels where friends may call from 11:00AM until the time of service. Burial will be in Thomas Cemetery, St Michaels. Arrangements are by the Ostrowski Funeral Home, St. Michaels.
