Cleda Gay Ayers/Fisher's Obituary
Cleda Gay Ayers/Fisher formerly of Federalsburg passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Caroline Nursing Home in Denton, MD. She died as she lived, with grace. Gay was 87.
She was born in Switchback, West Virginia on March 25, 1924 the daughter of the late John W. Hunnell and Flora B. Walker Hunnell. Her first husband, S. Edward Ayers, Jr. died on Nov. 9, 1990. She later married Edgar M. “Husky” Fisher who died March 29, 1999.
She was a graduate of Graham High School in Bluefield,VA. Gay worked at the former Service Trucking Company in Federalsburg, and for the former Preston Trucking Company in Preston, MD.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church since 1951, where she was a former vice-president of the United Methodist Women, was a member of the choir, and was a member of the Christian Endeavor Society for over 60 years. She was a member of the Federalsburg Senior Center.
She is survived by two sons, Sanford E. Ayers, III of Baltimore, and David W. Ayers and his wife Pam of Federalsburg, two grandchildren, D. Wesley Ayers, II and his wife Robyn of Federalsburg, and Angela A. Fletcher and her husband Scott of Arlington, VA, three great-grandchildren, a sister, Joyce Tabor of Montvale, VA and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, John Hunnell and James Hunnell preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg, MD with Rev. Al Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg. Visitation will be on Monday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
