Clifford R. Green
Trappe, Clifford Rogers Green of Trappe, died on Monday October 22, 2012 at his home, with his family at his side. He was 87. Born in Sayville New York on July 31, 1925, he was the son of the late, Wilson C. and Emma J. Satterly Green. Mr. Green attended public school in Sayville and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served in the South Pacific during WWII, he was slated to go to Japan, however the dropping of the atomic bomb prevented him from doing so. Following his release from active duty he returned to Long Island where he began a career as a machinist for various manufacturing companies. Mr. Green along with his wife Kathleen, and their family, enjoyed life on the water, during the late 1970s they began visiting the Eastern shore of Maryland, then in 1984 moved to Ridgely, and finally to Trappe where they have made their home since 1987. His love for the water began at an early age; Mr. Green was an avid sailor, having learned to sail at the age of nine, he and his wife would spend many years enjoying life on their various sailboats. He was a member of the Trappe United Methodist Church. In addition to his beloved wife Kathleen L. Green, he is survived by two children; Fred Green and wife Lynn of Laurel, DE, Janice Avery Devine and husband Kevin, of Easley, S.C, four grandchildren; Tim Devine, Kimberly Kirchner, Matthew Green, Sonya Green, six Great-grandchildren; Jonathan Robertson, Frankie Scholl, Jay Kirchner, Erin Kirchner, Matthew Devine, and Avery Green. He was preceded in death by his beloved friend and constant companion for many years, “Rebel”. A memorial service will be held at the Trappe United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM on Thursday October 25, 2012. Burial will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock. Donations may be made to the Talbot Co. Humane Society P.O. Box 1143 Easton, MD. 21601. Arrangements are by the Hurley & Ostrowski Funeral Home P.A. of St. Michaels.
