She was educated in Dorchester County Public Schools; Cordie worked on several farms and in private homes in the area. She worked for Marvel Packing Co. in Hebron, MD for many years. Her last employment was DeCecco Canning Co. in Rhodesdale, MD.
Cordie moved to Sharptown, MD when she met and married her late husband, Harrison Hopkins. She attended the Sharptown Methodist Church. After moving back to Rhodesdale, she joined Wallace Temple AME Zion Church. There she held many offices and worked faithfully. Cordie attended the Senior Center in Hurlock where she enjoyed socializing with friends. After her health started to fail, she lived with her niece Roberta for a while before moving to Mallard Bay Nursing Facility. There she made herself content. She enjoyed the church services there and always had a song on her heart. She often entertained the staff and residents with her famous hymn, "I'm Going Home On The Morning Train". She loved her family as well as her church family and always asked how the Church and Members were doing.
Cordie was the oldest of four brothers and two sisters, five step brothers and sisters of whom all are deceased. Cordie is survived by a daughter, Audrey, three grandsons, Brian, Lamont, and Raymond, several great-grandchildren, dear friends Vivian Keene and Rachel Jackson, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
