Dan Cole's Obituary
Daniel James “Dan” Cole, Sr. of Rhodesdale, MD passed away on Friday, Feb. 6, 2009 at the Anchorage Nursing & Rehab Center in Salisbury, MD. He was 89 years old.
He was born Aug. 30, 1919 in Hurlock, MD the son of the late Daniel and Martha Griffith Cole. His wife of 46 years, Margaret L. Paul Cole, preceded him in death on May 16, 1993.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II in the Battle of Normandy, in Tunisia, Sicily and the Rhineland. He worked as a farmer, was custodian for the Hurlock Elementary School for 10 years, was employed as night watchman for Maryland Plastics for many years, and faithfully delivered newspapers for the Daily Banner. He was a member of the American Legion Post 243 in Hurlock. He was the oldest living member of the Eldorado-Brookview Volunteer Fire Co., where he served for over 54 years, and held the office of president and vice president.
He is survived by a step son, Joseph Paul and his wife Liz, of
Reliance, 3 sons, Daniel “Jimmy” Cole, Jr. and his wife Brenda, and George Paul Cole, of Rhodesdale, Donald Wayne Cole of Salisbury, 2 grandchildren, Victoria Rose Wright-Morris of Seaford, DE and Wilbert Thomas Cole of Rhodesdale, and many nieces and nephews. He was the last of 8 children and was preceded in death by his siblings, George Cole, William Griffith, Esther Coulbourne, Emilene Foxwell, Linwood Griffith, Monroe Griffith, and Lucy Griffith.
A funeral service with military honors will be held on Wed. Feb. 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery Chapel in Hurlock with Rev. Dan Walker officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
