Daniel R. Sutherland
 
 
St. Michaels, Daniel R. Sutherland, age 47, formerly of Branchport, NY died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 18, 2012 in St. Michael’s, Maryland. He is survived by his two children, Skye and Storm Sutherland.
 
He was predeceased by his parents, Carlyle and Patricia Mahar Sutherland along with his sister, Ann Sutherland-Gann.
 
Daniel is survived by his siblings Susan (Francis) Nichols, Stephen (Linda) Sutherland, Farrell (Carol) Sutherland and Ellen (Joseph) Nooney. He is also survived by his companion Patti Diamond, his brother-in-law Robert Gann, his aunt Madonna Paddock as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
 
Daniel was Boat Yard Program Manager for the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and formerly owned his own business, Sutherland Boat and Coach in Hammondsport, NY.
 
Daniel was a truly gentle soul who lived his life by this quote from Kenneth Grahame’s The Wind in the Willows, "There is nothing, absolutely nothing, half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats".
 
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, February 25th from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at Sarassin’s on the Lake, 301 Lake Street, Penn Yan, NY. His many friends are invited to come and pay their respects and share their stories about Daniel.
 
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, 213 N. Talbot Street, P.O. Box 636, St. Michaels, MD 21663.
