David Wesley Ayers,
It is with great sadness to announce David Wesley Ayers, of Federalsburg, MD passed at home with family by his side on Friday, May 19, 2023 at the age of 73. He was born in Mud Fork, Virginia on March 23, 1950, the late son of S. Edward Ayers and Cleda Gay Hunnell Ayers.
David graduated from Colonel Richardson High School in 1968. After graduation, he entered the Army National Guard and served for six years. Following the National Guard, he began his life-long career in transportation and dispatch and retired in 2013.
He served in several capacities as a member of Christ United Methodist Church & Union United Methodist Church including singing in the church choirs. He was active in many organizations including Idlewild Ruritan Club for 24 years and served as former secretary. In his younger years, he coached little league and senior league baseball for 15 years in Federalsburg, MD finalizing in 1981 as a manager for American Legion Post 29 in Denton, MD. Everyone who knew David, knew he was passionate about baseball and a loyal fan of the New York Yankees.
David was the happiest with his wife and entire family, especially picking crabs on the porch in the summertime. He enjoyed various hobbies including traveling, reading, poker, and family gatherings. He was known for his dry sense of humor and loved giving anyone a hard time who could take it, especially when it came to talking politics. David will be remembered for his delicious homemade banana ice-cream, hiding stashes of smarties all over the house and introducing all the grandchildren to pork rinds.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Pamela Harding Ayers whom he married on July 15, 1972, his two children D. "Wesley" Ayers II (Robyn) of Federalsburg, MD and Angela Ayers Fletcher (Scott) of Arlington, VA and his brother Sanford Edward Ayers III (Harry) of Lewes, DE and six grandchildren Justin Ayers, Andrew Ayers, Brooke Planner, Alexis Planner, Dylan Fletcher, Davis Fletcher and one great grandson Gabriel Ayers.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Union United Methodist Church in Federalsburg, viewing is at 11:00 am and Service following at 12:00 pm.
