David A. Fisher's Obituary
David A. "Dave" Fisher, 82, of Greenwood, DE, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family - just ten days shy of his 83rd birthday.
Born and raised in Cumberland, Maryland, Dave always carried a deep affection for his hometown and the mountains he grew up among. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Frostburg University, where he was a proud member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity, and later completed his Master's in Education from the University of Maryland.
Teaching was not just Dave's career - it was his calling. For 47 years, he shared his passion for science with high school and college students, teaching subjects ranging from biology and anatomy and physiology to botany and astronomy. He believed in every student he taught, often saying, "I didn't have any bad kids. Some were tough, but they were all great." His kindness, patience, and deep belief in others inspired generations of students who never forgot the teacher who truly cared.
Dave's enthusiasm for learning extended far beyond the classroom. Outside of work, he continued to teach by example, encouraging others to live healthy, active lives.
A lifelong weightlifter, Dave was known for his incredible discipline and strength. He competed regularly and proudly earned first and second place finishes in every competition he entered. Even as the years went by, he continued to find joy in working out faithfully and focusing on his training. His dedication to fitness was more than physical - it reflected the way he lived: steady, consistent, and full of quiet determination.
In addition to weightlifting, some of Dave's other favorite things were spending time with family, his dog Baxter, exploring nature, studying insects, and watching a classic John Wayne film.
He will forever be remembered for his sharp, dry wit and unique sense of humor, his love of insects and bugs and overall genuine character.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; his children, Darren, Robyne, and Kathryn; his sister, Mary Ann; several cousins; and four grandchildren.
We'd like to end with a quote from Dave's favorite, John Wayne "Well, it's not how you're buried, it is how you're remembered"
On that note, we hope you will join us to celebrate and honor Dave on Oct 24th. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a service at 12:00 p.m., at Framptom Funeral Home - Fleischauer Chapel, Greenwood DE.
In lieu of cut flowers, the family requests that donations in Dave's memory be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Brandywine SPCA in Georgetown, Delaware.
