David Willard Layton's Obituary
David Willard Layton of Greenwood passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 82.
He was born on November 28, 1938 in Greenwood, Delaware the son of the late Carlton Layton and Beulah Hostedler Layton.
He graduated from Milford High School with the class of 1956. After his graduation, he married Elizabeth Steen and they made their home in Greenwood.
David worked at the former Diamond State Telephone, later Verizon for 33 years as a cable splicer. After his retirement, he continued working for Under/Comm Inc.
David was a life-long member of Bethany Church of the Brethren in Farmington. During his tenure there he taught Sunday School, served as a Deacon, and helped with Vacation Bible School. In his younger days, he served with the Brethren Volunteer Services. He loved the Lord and witnessed often to people.
In his free time, David loved to tend to his garden and roses. He also enjoyed woodworking, playing horseshoes and corn hole. He loved taking pictures especially of sunsets. He cut paths in his woods and would take daily golf cart rides. Above all, he loved spending time with his family (including his grandchildren and great-grandchildren).
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Layton; two daughters: Faith Moore and her children with David, Jehnna Moore and Josiah Moore; and Joy Roberts and her husband Marvin, with their children: Kyle Roberts, and Amy Jo Carey and her husband Jonathan; three great-grandchildren: Parker Carey, Adalynn Carey and Ryder Carey; two brothers: Kenneth Layton and his wife Elda and Paul Layton and his wife Revonda all of Greenwood.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Theodore "Ted" Layton and a sister Mildred Melvin.
A graveside celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 1:30 PM at St. Johnstown Cemetery in Greenwood.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at www.mastcellhope.org to support the foundation in research and finding cures for the rare disease of Mast Cell in which David's granddaughter and great grandchildren have.
