David Lynn Sapp's Obituary
David Lynn Sapp of Greenwood passed from this life into the arms of Christ at TidalHealth Nanticoke Hospital in Seaford on Monday, September 20, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was 63 years old. He was known as "Sappy" by many of his friends.
Born in Milford on May 29, 1958, he was the son of the late John F. "Jack" and Gertrude E. "Gertie" Purcell Sapp. David attended Milford High School, graduating in 1976. In September of that same year, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served honorably until 1988. He was a member of the Army Reserves for another year after that. Following his time in the military, he was a Dispatcher at Delaware State Police Headquarters, then entered the Delaware State Police Academy. After the Academy, he joined the Harrington Police Department, then later served at the Milford Police Department. He went on to become a Recruiter for the Army for a brief time. Other various positions he held were: Diamond Motor Sports Salesperson, Leon Wiener & Associates Maintenance Supervisor, West Seaford Elementary School Chief Custodian, All-Span Construction Steel Truss Fabricator, and at the time of his passing, he worked for DART Delaware Transit Corporation as a Para-Transit Specialist.
David served as a member of Houston Volunteer Fire Company and Carlisle Fire Company in his younger years. He also proudly served various roles as a member of the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Company over the last 24 years, including Safety Officer, Assistant Chief, and finally Fire Police at the time of his passing. He was also an active member of the Bridgeville Pistol & Rifle Club, National Rifle Association, and the Delaware National Guard.
His hobbies were extensive as well - he was a motorcycle enthusiast, an avid hunter, and knife collector. As a NASCAR fanatic, he and his wife served as pit road firefighters at Dover Downs for the NASCAR races for many years. He also very much enjoyed spending time with and sharing his love of bird watching with his grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife Jeanne, whom he married on Dec. 7, 1988, he is survived by two daughters, Nicole Holston (Bobby "Sniper-one") of Laurel, Delaware and Lindsay Luzier (Chad) of Harrington, Delaware; his grandchildren, Adelina Luzier and Jackson Luzier; one brother, John Sapp (Nancy) of Laurel, Delaware; one sister, Susan Riehl (Don) of Salem, Oregon; nieces, nephews and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Travis Lee "The Dude" Holston, who he knew he would reunite with again in Heaven.
Graveside services with full fire department honors will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood, Delaware.
