David C. Shirey's Obituary
David C. Shirey of Centreville, MD, passed away at his home, on Sunday, July 22, 2007. He was 77 years old.
He was born on December 30, 1929 in Hagerstown, MD, son of the late James Jacob Shirey and Mabel Ponesmith Shirey.
He graduated from Hagerstown High School. He continued his education at University of Maryland where he received a B.S. degree in electrical engineering. He served his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1954. He worked for over twenty five years at Honeywell, Inc. in Annapolis as an electrical engineer. He was a member of the Engineer Honor Society, Tau Beta Pi. He had previously attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Annapolis, Lighthouse Community Church in Federalsburg, and currently attending Covenant Family Church in Wye Mills. He was a member of the Board of Directors for Youth for Christ in Talbot and Queen Anne’s County for five years. He was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Betty Jane Schmick Shirey, whom he married on June 1, 1957, three sons, John David Shirey and his wife, Mary Ann of Gaithersburg, Paul M. Shirey and his wife, Kathryn of Fairfax, VA, Philip J. Shirey and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg at 11 a.m. with Pastor Scott Connell officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock with military honors.
