David Lee Smith's Obituary
David Lee (Mickey) Smith, a resident of Georgetown, DE departed this life and entered into eternal live on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Bebee hospital in Lewes, Delaware. David was born July 17, 1934 to the late Elizabeth Smith and Albert Moore in Berlin, MD. David was a faithful member of St Matthews 1st Baptist Church in Laurel, Delaware, where he lifted up the name of Jesus. He served in Prison Ministry, Thursday morning Prayer Breakfast, and was a member of Frankford Crusaders. His favorite songs; "Ride Out The Storm ,and How Do You Feel When you Come Out Of Wilderness. He was employed at an early age for Linwood McCabe hauling sawdust in Berlin for Showell Farms, and Showell Hatches in Showell, MD, for Perdue Farms in Salisbury, MD and Eming’s Restaurant in Bishopvile, MD. David loved people and was always somewhere encouraging someone with a word from the Lord. He enjoyed talking about the Bible. His favorite scripture was Psalm 27 and Psalm 34. Loving memories will forever be cherished by his wife, Gloria Smoth of Georgetown, DE, six children, Betty (Joe) Brown of Salisbury, MD, Wallace (Jouann) Smith of Whaleyville, MD, Jean (David) Robins of Snow Hill, MD, Gertrude (Tyrone) Cooper of Salisbury, MD, Lamar Stancell and Rashena Stancell, Laurel, DE, 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and1 great-great-grandchild and 7 siblings, Thomas (Katherine) Smith of Berlin, MD, James Smith of Bishopville, MD, Harvey (Betty) Smith of Berlin, MD, Edna Logan of Millsboro, DE Catherine Smith of Philadelphia, PA Debbie Brittingham of Upper Marlboro, MD and William Purnell, Wilmington, DE, and a special mother-in-law Doris Bailey of Laurel, DE, a brother-in-law, Moses (Maxine) Stancell and Leon Giles of Laurel, sisters-in-law, Rosalind Stancell, Joyce (Bill) Stancell of Laurel, Mozet (Gene) Stancell of Wilmington, DE, and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends, and his Very Special Sponsor, John Edwards. He was preceded in death by a son, David Smith, Jr. and a grandson, Jamal Smith. Funeral services for him will be held on Saturday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Matthews First Baptist Church in Laurel , DE with Rev. Nathan McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in Curtis United Methodist Church Cemetery in Bishopville. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m.
