David Wheatley Lankford's Obituary
David Wheatley Lankford of East New Market, MD passed away on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009 at Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge, MD. He was 86 years old.
He was born May 31, 1923 in Shiloh, Dorchester Co., MD, the son of the late Scott E. Lankford, Sr. and Myra Brinsfield Lankford, and was raised by his late uncle and aunt, Hammond and Katie Brinsfield Hastings. His wife, Lennabelle Ewell Lankford preceded him in death on Feb. 24, 2002.
Mr. Lankford was a Hurlock High School graduate class of 1940. He was a farmer working with his uncle from 1940 to 1950. He retired from the former Continental Can Company in Hurlock after 31 years of service, retiring in 1982. He enjoyed traveling in his motorhome, was an avid Orioles fan and sports fan, was an oil lamp collector, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hurlock.
He is survived by his daughter Joyce North and her husband Herbert North, Jr. of Griffith’s Neck, 3 grandchildren, Valerie Lomax (Mickey), Christine Delaney (Rick), both of Rhodesdale, and Jay Bradley (Cindy) of Manchester, PA, 7 great-grandchildren, Amber Aaron, Tyler Brummett, Hailey Brummett, Nick Lomax, Zack Bradley, Jessica Radabough, and Amanda Glatfelter; 2 brothers, Eddy Lankford (Charlotte) of Hurlock and Bobby Lankford (June) of Seaford, DE, and many nieces and nephews, and a special friend Ruth Harding of Cambridge.
Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a grandson, Danny Bradley, 4 sisters Margaret Bailey, Pauline Knowles, Eleanor Bennett, and Anne Lankford, and 7 brothers Scott E. Lankford, Jr., Alfred Lankford, Jack Lankford, Irvin Lankford and Paul Lankford.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 11, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Hughart officiating. Interment will
follow in Eldorado Cemetery, Eldorado, MD. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Pallbearers will be Herbert North, Jr., Jay Bradley, Rick Delaney, Tyler Brummett, Mickey Lomax, Nick Lomax.
