Delores Ann Christopher's Obituary
Delores “Dody” Ann Christopher, age 71 of Preston, MD passed away August 13, 2015 at her home after a brave battle with lung cancer. Dody was born September 27, 1943 in Rhinebeck, NY. She was the daughter of the late Floyd Hornbeck, Sr. and Gladys Grant Hornbeck.
Dody attended Roosevelt Senior High School, then received her certificate from Shedden’s School of Cosmetology in Newburgh NY. She was a homemaker all of her life, working part time in beauty shops including Carol Messick’s Beauty Parlor. She also worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Francis Hospital in NY and Hudson river State Hospital. Dody spent her childhood in Wappergers Falls. The family then moved to Poughkeepsie, NY where she lived to adulthood.
On June 15, 1962, she married Harold (Hal) Fowler,Jr. in Hyde Park, NY. They had three children, Cheryl, Deb, and John. After dissolution of that marriage, Dody married Harold Samuel Christopher on October 13, 1970 and moved to Preston, MD, where she resided until her passing. They had one son, Chris.
Dody was a member of Fairview Brethren Church. She also enjoyed crocheting, plastic canvas and sewing. She took great joy in making caps for cancer patients and donating them. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, was a huge fan of Elvis, loved shopping and going to lunch with her beloved sisters-in-law.
Dody is survived by her children, Cheryl (Bruce) Hoffman, Deborah (Rob) Tubbs, John Fowler, and Harold Chris Samuel (Barbara) Christopher, 9 grandchildren, Cansie, Ann, James, Kelsey, Ray, Travis, Courtney, Hailey and Emily, 7 great-grandchildren, Billy, Cyndi, Kris, TJ, Triston, Aleigha and Zoe, a sister Geraldine Nancy Smith (Charles) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Samuel Christopher, Sr., a grandson Brett Jacob Christopher and a brother Floyd (Sonny) Hornbeck Jr.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home, Federalsburg, MD with Rev. Tom Richard officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Junior Order Cemetery, Preston, MD.
