Donald Paul Eslin Sr.'s Obituary
Donald Paul Eslin, Sr. of Federalsburg, MD passed away at Memorial Hospital in Easton on Saturday, June 16, 2012. He was 80.
He was born on October 23, 1931 in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Charles Edward Eslin and Anne Mooney Eslin.
He was a basketball standout at Calvin Coolidge High School and Montgomery Junior College before he served his country in the United States Army as a cryptographer. He was honorably discharged in 1956.
Don was Vice President of Franklin Investments in Washington, D.C. and later owned and operated “FlipCards” baseball card shop in Federalsburg, MD. For over fifty years, he was a passionate coach and mentor to thousands of children in a variety of sports. He adored animals and rescued many. He was a passionate history buff and a gifted writer.
He is survived by five children, Janice E. Baker of Federalsburg, MD, Donald P. “Chip” Eslin, Jr. (Cheryl) of Cape St. Clair, MD, Beth A. Coleman of Columbia, MD, Scott A. Eslin of Pasadena, MD, Brian E. Eslin (Karman) of Fenwick, DE, fifteen grandchildren, including his grandson whom he fondly referred to as his “Lightning Bolt”, Steven D. Poole of Federalsburg, eight great-grandchildren, a sister, Barbara Anne Clements (Charles) of Virginia, a brother, Charles E. “Chip” Eslin, Jr. of Beaufort, NC, three nephews, and his former wife, Patricia A. Hansen.
A life celebration will be held on Saturday, June 30, at 5 pm at Annie’s Paramount Steak and Seafood House in Grasonville, MD.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Maryland SPCA, 3300 Falls Road, Baltimore, MD 21211.
