Donald S. Ford's Obituary
Donald S. Ford, known as “Tommy” of Preston, MD passed away at U.M.S.M.C. at Easton on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. He was 94.
He was born in Perryman, MD on April 16, 1920, the son of the late, Bartlett Ford and Ida Mae Shane Ford.
He was raised on Spesutie Island with his six brothers and four sisters. He later moved to Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1937. After graduation, he began his career at A.W. Sisk & Son in Aberdeen. He served in the United States Air Force from 1942-1945. He was a member of the 351st Bomb Group and was shot down bombing Frankfurt, Germany on October 4, 1943 and spent the next 19 months as a POW. He was liberated on May 2, 1945.
He returned home and resumed his job at A.W. Sisk & Son. On April 27, 1946 he married Marjorie Mitchell. Upon the closure of A.W. Sisk & Son in Aberdeen, he transferred to the Sisk office in Preston, Maryland in June of 1970. He retired after 45 years of service in 1982.
Upon retirement, Tommy enjoyed living on the Choptank River. He spent many days fishing, crabbing, and trapping snapping turtles. He loved hunting waterfowl and enjoyed feeding the birds at his home.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marjorie, a son, Stephen Ford and his wife Robin of Easton, two grandchildren, Amy Brown and her husband, Jason of Easton, and their daughter, Olivia, Matthew Ford of Oxford and his fiancée, Emily Gannon and her daughter, Lyla. “Uncle Tommy” is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ford’s family would like to thank the staff of the Caroline Nursing Home, where he resided the last 3 years, for their dedicated and compassionate care.
