Donald E. “Pete†Willey
Cambridge: Donald Edward “Pete†Willey of Tilghman, died at the Mallard Bay Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Cambridge, on Monday, July 18, 2011. He was 89.
Born in St. Michaels on August 3, 1921 he was the son of the late Edward D. and Eva Ensor Willey. He attended Talbot County public school in St. Michaels and then in 1942 the entered the U.S. Army. Pete served in the European Theater, including, the invasion Normandy, N. Africa, Northern France & Sicily during WWII. He received numerous decorations for his military service including a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished unit Badge, European Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and the Medal of the Jubilee of Liberty of which he was very proud. Following his release from active duty, he returned to Talbot Co. where he began a lifelong career as an independent truck driver. Pete loved the open road, and to tell of the adventures that went with it, he leased his truck to various trucking companies in the tri county area for many years. After he retired he and his wife Corinne maintained C & D Boat Rentals on Tilghman until his final retirement for health reasons.
Pete, was a member of the E.E. Streets Memorial Post 5118 V.F.W. of Easton.
Mr. Willey is survived by his wife; the former, Mary Corinne Meekins Edinger of Tilghman, whom he married in 1989, a daughter; Donna Suzanne Zeches of Cordova, two step-daughters; Beverly Flater and husband Skip of Denton, Terry Crismond and husband Fred of N. Carolina, Also survived by his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister.
Chapel services will be held at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Eastern-shore, Hurlock, Md. on Friday July 22, 2011 at 11:00AM. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:00Pm at the Hurley & Ostrowski Funeral Home P.A. St. Michaels.
