Dorothy Virginia Truitt McConnell's Obituary
Dorothy Virginia Truitt McConnell passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at her home in Federalsburg.
She was born on April 2, 1925 in Salisbury, Maryland, the daughter of the late George & Laura Truitt.
After graduating from Wicomico High School, Mrs. McConnell worked for E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company in Seaford, Delaware and later for C & P Telephone Company. She and her late husband, James R. McConnell owned and operated McConnell’s Fun Food in Denton, MD until retiring in 1985. She was an avid bridge player and former member of the Nanticoke Lodge of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James Richard McConnell on July 1, 2008. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Katherine McConnell Lewis and her husband, W. Keith Lewis of Federalsburg, a granddaughter, Lisa Lewis; three grandsons, Dr. Lindy Ladd Lewis, Brian K. Lewis, James T. “Bud” Lewis (Taffie), and one great granddaughter, Charlotte McConnell Lewis all of Federalsburg. She is also survived by one sister, Joan T. Causey, a brother-in-law, Robert Edward McConnell, a close nephew James Hershey McConnell, his wife Kimberly, and several other nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Charles Truitt and Lee Truitt, and two sisters, Louise T. Reddish and Aline T. Patrick also preceded her death.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 12:00 noon at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with the Reverend Denzil T. Cheek officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:00. Entombment will be private.
