Dorothy M. Stewart Jones' Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy Mae Stewart Jones, a long-time resident of East New Market, Maryland, died of heart failure at Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge on Saturday, September 27. She was 84.
Born on Friday, October 5, 1923, in Vienna, Maryland, She was the eleventh of thirteen children born to the marriage of Herman James Stewart and Edith Robbins Stewart.
Dorothy Jones was raised for the first seven or eight years of her life by her maternal aunt, Delsie Emma Robbins, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When she returned to Vienna, she was educated in the public school system of Dorchester County and graduate from Herbert St. Clair High School in 1942.
On June 3, 1944, she married Burney James Hollis, Sr. of Vienna, Maryland. Three children were born to that marriage. After a divorce, she married Robert Jones of East New Market, on March 17, 1962, and they remained married for 46 years, until her death.
For most of her life, Dorothy Jones was a homemaker. For a number of years, she did seasonal factory work, but she retired in the seventies when her health no longer allowed her to do so. For the past several months she was a resident of Mallard Bay Care Center, until she was admitted to Dorchester General on Thursday of last week.
Survivors include: her husband of forty-six years, Robert H. Jones of East New Market; three children—Carlotta M. McNeill, Della M. McNeill and Dr. Burney J. Hollis, Jr., all of Baltimore; one sister, Lillian Buntin of West Hempstead, New York; one brother, Russell Stewart of Cambridge; three grandchildren—Cheryl D. Mackey, Keith D. McNeill and Teron K. Hollis, all of Baltimore; three great grandchildren—Shenia D. Mackey, Danielle E. Hollis, and Keith D. McNeill, Jr., all of Baltimore; two godchildren, Cheryl Macer of Cambridge and Dennis Stanley of Pennsylvania; two sons-in-law, George McNeill and Frank McNeill, both of Baltimore; five sisters-in-law—Mary Frances Thompson, Mildred Jones, Sarah Stewart, Mildred Stewart and Leola Stewart; one brother-in-law, Wallace Thompson; special nieces Patricia Banks and Bertha Wongus; special nephew George Thompson, Jr.; spiritual sister Eunice Jones; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Family Hour and Wake for Dorothy Jones will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the National Church of God, Inc., 809 Washington Street, Cambridge, Maryland. Additional
Viewing will take place at National Church of God in Cambridge at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2008, followed by Home going Services at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Thompsontown Cemetery in Thompsontown, Maryland
