Dortha H. LeCompte Hallowell's Obituary
Dortha Hoover LeCompte Hallowell of Federalsburg died at Easton Memorial Hospital on Monday, December 24, 2012. She was 84.
She was born in Cambridge, MD on October 19, 1928 the daughter of the late Claude Mace LeCompte and Virgie Morris Lecompte. She was preceded in death by her life long friend and former husband, Richard Reese Hallowell, two brothers, Claude “Son” LeCompte and Vernon H. LeCompte, and three sisters, Alice Collins, Maude Pennypacker and her twin sister, Martha Smith Richardson. She was a graduate in 1946 from Hurlock High School where she was remembered for her athletic abilities in many different sports. She then attended Salisbury State College. She first worked for a time at E. I. Dupont in Seaford, DE and she and her twin sister Martha later operated the Tastee Freeze in Hurlock from 1960-1972. She was a former Cub Scout Leader in Federalsburg. She worked at Bells’s Cut-Rate and Wetcher Whistle in Federalsburg and then was a care-giver for Charlotte Carter of Laurel, DE. She was an avid bowler at Seaford Bowling Center and was a former member of Caroline Country Club and Hurlock American Legion Post 243. She had a special ability to transform a piece of ground into a beautiful garden. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Hallowell Bennett and her husband Cope of Rhodesdale, MD, her son, David Wayne Hallowell of Hurlock, her daughter-in-law, Linda Hallowell of East New Market, two grandchildren, Crystal Carter Carpenter and her husband Robert of Federalsburg and Jordan Hallowell of Cambridge and two great-grandchildren, Curstin Carpenter and Chloe Carpenter, many nieces and nephews, a special care-giver, Diana Patchett of Preston. Memorial services for her will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Framptom Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 3:00. The family has requested that donations be made in her memory to either, Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company P. O. Box 99, Federalsburg, MD 21632 or to the Paliative Care Suite, Attention: Jennifer Miles, 219 Washington Street Easton, MD 21601.
