Duane Linford Miller's Obituary
Duane Linford Miller, born to Roy and Laura (Swartz) Miller on June 10, 1946 in Phoenixville, PA went home to Paradise with Jesus on April 4, 2026 at the age of 79. He passed away at his home in Milford.
He attended Milford Public School, Greenwood Mennonite School and Lancaster Mennonite School in PA.
At a young age he did masonry work and soon after started his own business, which later became Miller Brother's Masonry. He and his brother Lester later expanded the business into Miller Brother's Sand & Gravel. Their brothers, Melvyn and Dean, sons Rusty, Jeff and Lavon and many other well- loved employees worked with them. They were subcontracted by Nanticoke Homes from the time they opened until the day they closed. They also did a lot of work for Warfel Construction.
Duane loved his family and always made them his first priority. He spent hours every evening with his children, attending all of their sports events and coaching track.
Duane excelled in designing and building fire places from brick and stone. He was also talented in woodworking, making pens, furniture and various items out of wood and deer antlers. He was an avid hunter and helped many others with hunting and field dressing deer and other game. He loved to cook, which he did often with his wife. He played guitar, banjo and the mouth harp and sang in a quartet with his brothers Lester, Dean and Melvyn for many years. He was a star track runner and wrestler at Milford Public School and played on a softball team well into his 40's. He was chairman of G.M.S. school board for many years and taught Sunday School at church.
On January 1st, 1973 he married the love of his life, Fern (Mishler) Miller. He is survived by her, his wife of 53 years, and their four children, Robin (Henry) Chisenhall, Duane Lavon Miller, Holly (Danny) Humphries, Heather (Justin) King. Also surviving are his ten grandchildren, Sonny Chisenhall, Jessie Chisenhall (Naylor) Densmore, Mason Chisenhall, Rylie Humphries (Kenny) Vincent, Amber Humphries and fiancé' Cole Attix, Danica Humphries, Caden King, Colton King, Delaney King and Chase King and two great grandchildren, Ila and Naylor Densmore. Also surviving are his brothers Lester (Mary) Miller, Dean (Annette) Miller and sister Cheryl Brisco and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Raymond (Diane) Miller, Melvyn Miller, Sister in law Caroline Barbee, Charlotte Martin and brother in law Pete Hitchens.
He will be remembered as a loving and helpful husband, dad, pop-pop and friend to many. His presence will be greatly missed by his family.
Services will be held at the Greenwood Mennonite Church on Saturday, April 11, 2026. Visitation will take place 12:00-2:00 pm. Service begins at 2:00 pm with interment to follow at G.M.C. Cemetery. A meal will follow the interment at Greenwood Mennonite Church 12650 Mennonite School Rd. Greenwood, DE 19950.
