Earl L. Ekas' Obituary
Earl L. Ekas of Federalsburg, Maryland passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Delmar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 85.
He was born on September 9, 1936 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of the late Walter Earl Ekas and Norma Ida Nixon Ekas.
After his education, Earl enlisted in the United States Army. He served from 1955-1958. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and started a life-long career with the Carling Brewery in Landsdowne. Working for the Brewer Workers Union #1010 for 35 years as a forklift operator, Earl often recalled many great memories with his work and union brothers.
After his retirement, he began visiting the Eastern Shore. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing and crabbing. Earl was a member of the American Legion Post #109 in Arbutus, Maryland, the Federalsburg VFW Post #5246 in Federalsburg, and was a strong supporter of "Vets helping Vets" through the Hurlock American Legion Post #243. Earl loved to tinker, build, and always had a project going on.
He was married to Kathleen "Kathy" Quinn on June 28, 2003 and they made their home in Federalsburg.
Above all, Earl loved to be a dad and grandfather. He loved everything about his family and always enjoyed every chance he could to be with those he loved. He will always be remembered for his "can-do" attitude, friendly smile and big heart.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Quinn Ekas of Federalsburg; a daughter Deborah Keelan and her husband Mike of Carlisle, PA; and a son John Ekas of Landsdowne, MD; four grandchildren Jennifer Garrett and her husband Ty of Hanover, PA, Lauren Jackson and her companion Wills of Baltimore, Kaitlin Jackson of West Virginia and A.J. Ekas of Landsdowne; great grandchildren Abigail, Riley and Connor; two step-sons and their families Jerry Coppock of Federalsburg, MD and William Coppock and his wife Lusine and their daughter Charlotte of Santa Clarita, CA; a step great grandson Jerry Coppock, III and his companion Adriana Gomez and their children Audrina and Cameron all of Rosamond, CA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Earl Wesley Ekas and a grandson, Wesley William Ekas, Jr., and a granddaughter Alexyss Ekas.
