Edna Emelia Schmick Warren's Obituary
Edna Emelia Schmick Warren, 89, died peacefully in her residence in Catonsville on April 30, 2013. She was born on August 30, 1923 and was raised in Preston, graduated from Salisbury State Teacher’s College and taught elementary school in Linthicum Heights during WWII. In 1947 she married Walter Warren, Jr. of Baltimore. As a homemaker, she raised their three daughters while actively engaged in the community working with Girl Scouts and substitute teaching. At Holy Nativity Lutheran Church she taught Sunday School, led Junior Choir and served on the building committee. Edna and Walt relocated to the Eastern Shore in 1972 for a quieter lifestyle. There she enjoyed life on the Choptank River and the company of her siblings and friends. Her hobbies included singing with the choir at Immanuel Lutheran Church, gardening, playing Bridge, quilting and painting. She was active in the Community Club of Preston and the Homemaker’s Club. She joined Walt in selling real estate for Latham Realty and taught piano to many students over 23 years. Mrs. Warren was widowed in 1983 and in 2000 she returned to the Catonsville area to reside at Charlestown Retirement Community.
She is survived by her three daughters and their spouses: Susan and Gary Storm of Annapolis, Janet and Patrick Krochina of Anchorage, AK., and Nancy and Robert Burke of Ellicott City, nine grandchildren, Kevin (Claudia), Brian (Tracy) and David(Colleen)Storm, Natasha, Zach, Allison Krochina, and Liz (Marcus)Karaffa, Katie and Conor Burke and eight great-grandchildren, Lucas, Camila, Antonela, Samantha, Kaitlyn, Noah, Alexa, and Harper. Her surviving siblings are John Schmick of Easton, Frederick Schmick of Preston, Reverend Victor Schmick of Sandston, VA, and Betty Shirey of Centerville. She was preceded in death by her parents John & Elsie Schmick and siblings, Leona and Kenneth. She long prized and practiced Longfellow’s words, “let us then be up and doing” until succumbing to the symptoms of advanced congestive heart failure earlier this year.
The celebration of Edna’s life will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Preston on Saturday, May 4th at 11am. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11.
