Edna Viola Butler's Obituary
Hurlock --- Edna Viola Butler, 73, of Hurlock, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 20, 2012. She died at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Ms. Butler was born April 5, 1938 in Preston to Rommer “Rome” and Lula A. (Thomas) Butler.
She was an alumna of Jonestown School and a 1956 graduate of Lockerman High School in Caroline County.
Possessor of a quick wit, constant smile and deft hands; she was primarily employed in food-processing industries including Jack LeGate’s Canning, Harrison Jarboe, Grasonville Fisheries, A.J. Messick, DeCecco, B & G Canning and Trappe Frozen Foods. She also worked at Black & Decker, The Easton Star-Democrat and for Noble Kelley of Preston.
Ms. Butler was a lifelong member of Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church of Preston. A soprano, she sang in the church choir. She was an attendee at the Caroline Medical Adult Day Care of Denton and Pleasant Day Medical Adult Day Care in Cambridge.
She resided 40 years on Newton Road in Preston and most recently at Hurlock Meadows. Her hobbies included crafts and clipping newspapers. Lucky in bingo, she loved dominoes, board and card games. Her musical interests centered on good gospel and sweet-soul music.
An avid yard saler and Colonel Richardson High School sports fan, she was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt; a generous and loyal friend and beloved community member.
She is survived by her daughter Robin Caudell of the Adirondacks, granddaughter Nicole L. Caudell, a global traveler; stepson Detraie Lake of Cambridge; sister Addie M. Butler of Hurlock; brother Paul T. (Doris) Butler of Salisbury and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, extended family and friends.
She was predeceased in death by her parents, Rommer and Lula Butler; sister Martha S. (Weldon) Watson; brothers Harvey and Norwood Butler; James S. Kellum (Robin’s father) and Nick E. Caudell (Nicole’s father).
Her funeral service will be held Saturday, 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Calvary. Viewing is from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Preston. Memorial contributions may be made to the Edna Viola Butler Multimedia Fund at Mt. Calvary.
