Edward Joseph Mink's Obituary
Edward J. Mink of Federalsburg, MD and Berlin, MD passed away on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, MD.
He was born in Philadelphia, PA on Aug. 17,1924, the son of the late Joseph and Agnes Myers Mink.
He graduated from Darby Senior High School where he lettered in basketball, football, soccer and baseball. Later he matriculated at East Stroudsburg State Teachers College in Stroudsburg, PA and graduated as a physical education major. Again, he lettered in the four special sports.
After graduating, he became a teacher with the Dorchester County Public Schools in Hurlock, and soon became a coach to be reckoned with. He made a large group of friends and enjoyed life on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Ed furthered his education at the University of Pennsylvania, University of Maryland and Salisbury State University.
When north Dorchester, a new and larger high school, was built in the County, he coached soccer, basketball and baseball and, also, was driver educational instructor.
In 1948, he married Ruth Nichols, a teacher in Federalsburg, Caroline County. They lived in Hurlock for three years before moving to their new home in Federalsburg. They enjoyed their teaching days and were visited frequently by present and prior students. They both felt that those 36 years were the very best a teacher could have ever experienced.
For several years Ed played basketball on Hurlock and Federalsburg local teams. Ed enjoyed playing golf and tennis and was a charter member of the Caroline County Country Club. He and Ruth had a summer vacation home and enjoyed many summers spent in Oceat City, MD.
Mr. Mink leaves his wife, Ruth Mink, a son, Mark E. Mink, a grandson, Michael J. Mink, brother-in-law, Raymond C. Nichols, and several special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Mink, and sister-in-law, Miriam M. Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 12:00 noon at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with Rev. David Heistand officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
