Elizabeth Towers Fluharty's Obituary
Elizabeth "Libby" Towers Fluharty of Federalsburg died on January 3, 2024 at Talbot Hospice House. She was 82 years old. She was born to the late Frank J & Grace Lane Towers of Denton on June 24, 1941. She graduated from Caroline High School in 1959 and married the late Carl Leon Fluharty, son of the late Lawrence F. & Roberta Handy Fluharty, at Harmony Methodist Church, Preston, on August 13, 1960.
She worked as a secretary at Noble Ford in Easton until she started her family. She later worked part-time at Bethlehem Motors, Frase's Meat Shop, and did catering with Frances Wrightson of Preston before becoming an aide and later driver of a Special Needs bus for Caroline County Public Schools, retiring after 26 years in 2003.
During her children's school years, she was active in PTA, Caroline County Council of PTA's, School Sports, CRHS Band Boosters VP/Pres for 4 years, Little League, Cub Scouts, and a lifetime member of Girl Scouts of the USA - serving as leader, trainer, advisor, cookie chair, and area chair for several years.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose where she was honored with the College of Regents & Red Stole Degree. She was also a lifetime member of the VFW Post# 5246 Auxiliary where she served as Chaplain for several years, AARP, and Caroline's Most Beautiful Volunteer. Her family became involved in 1998 as a team raising money for Relay for Life and they continued for 12 years. She chaired the event for many years.
She is survived by one son, Frank Curtis Fluharty Sr. and wife Valerie of Federalsburg; and two daughters, Robin Lynn Mitchell and husband Robert of Seaford Delaware and Susan Beth Corbitt and husband Alan of Hillsboro, Texas; seven grandchildren - Eric W. Simmons Sr. and wife Ashleigh, Amy Elizabeth Simmons-Hope and husband Chris, Lawrence E. Fluharty, Frank C. Fluharty Jr. and wife Samantha, Devin Nicole Corbitt, Kristen Amber Mitchell and husband Andrew, and David A. Corbitt and wife Ryleigh; seven great-grandchildren, Eric William Simmons, Jr., Ryleigh Nicole Simmons, Emma Grace Simmons-Hope, Tucker Bryce Simmons, Everlee Lynn Hope, Braylynn Noelle Mitchell, and arriving soon Olivia Grace Corbitt. Two brothers - Frank C. Towers and wife Marion of Camarillo, CA, and Charles R. Towers of Easton; four sisters-in-law, Evelyn Fluharty Cummings, Blanche Fluharty, and Maggie Rogers and husband Bill, and Phyllis Towers; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence F. Fluharty Jr. and Charles McNeal, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, his parents, and her parents, she is preceded in death by one son Christopher Lee Fluharty, two sisters, Barbara Ellen Synder and husband Bob, Peggy Gray and husband Raymond; one brother John W. Towers; three sisters-in-law, Ruth McNeal, Mildred Fluharty, and Janice McNeal; and two brothers-in-law Charles W. Fluharty and David Cummings.
Funeral services will be held at Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11:00. Interment will follow at Junior Order Cemetery in Preston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
